Five most common passwords
2007-04-28
On average, the human brain can hold only five to nine "random bits of information" in short-term memory. Considering the brain's limited capacity and the sheer number of secret names, codes, and words a person needs to remember in this password-protected age, it's no surprise that the most common password is simply "password"Besides serving as an easy-to-remember code for less-creative computer users, "password" is often used as the default password for many web sites and programs, making it extremely common and not at all secure. In other words, "password" is a bad password.
Other perennial favorites include "God," "sex," "money," and "love." Passwords based on the names or birthdays of partners, children, or pets are also quite common. Here's a pretty lengthy list of common passwords. Make sure to scan it and look for yours. If yours made the list, it's probably a good idea to change it.
Scribbles also has a good article on passwords on her blog.

If you aren't happy with how much you weigh...
2007-04-24
wait a day and weigh again!
Now I know I didn't lose 3 lbs, well, technically I did but, I think with women and maybe men too, our weight flucuates so much in just a day's time...
The long and short of it is, I weigh 107 today.
and I increased my steps by 714 steps! :) 6949 for my grand total yesterday.
Right now it's 11:20 CST and I'm showing 2182 on my pedometer.
How'd you do yesterday Mary Mary? Anyone else keep track?
Back to closet cleaning...ugh

10,000 Steps
2007-04-23
| why 10,000 steps? The goal of doing 10,000 steps a day came from a concept in Japan that started nearly 40 years ago. When you think of the Japanese, you think of a very fit, ageless group of people. We are aware of the Japanese diet that consists primarily of fish, rice and vegetables, and little, if any, processed foods. In addition to eating in a healthy way, the Japanese lead walking lifestyles. This helps them to achieve their fitness levels without additional exercise programs. The Japanese are focused on doing 10,000 steps a day. That equals about 5 miles a day, depending on your stride. The average American takes about 2,300 to 3,000 steps daily, closer to 1.5 miles, according to a study by Novartis Nutrition. The study referencing the Amish told us that the average American walks about 4,000 steps a day. Regardless of the exact number, we are woefully under this healthy threshold of 10,000 steps. Remember, the University of Tennessee study found walking 10,000 steps a day had a huge impact on body fat and waist and hip measurements even compared to a 6,000 step a day count! We firmly believe that knowing your beginning step count and increasing it is key to healthier and happier individuals. For most of us, 10,000 steps a day is a great goal to achieve. Of course, goals can vary due to physical condition and to personal desires, such as losing weight. You should always consult with your physician before starting a new exercise plan. | |
The above came from this website....walkstyles.com/SiteCorpInfo/Why10KSteps.aspx I am in no way affiliated with them.
Join me?
Grab yourself a pedometer, latch it to the waist of your garment and just see how many steps a day you take.
Yesterday my pedometer showed 6235 steps, which is probably a little more than average for me because we had baby girl here. So if your chasing around after a toddler on a regular basis, you'll probably have a better chance of reaching that 10,000 step goal! She was only here until noon, so if she had stayed all day, like she had on Saturday, I might have made my goal.
I'm going to the gym today to do my usual 30 mins on the treadmill. (note: this is not something I do everyday but, I should)
Pedometers are inexpensive. You can buy them at Walmart for about $5.
Check in with me from time to time to let me know what your average daily amount of steps are because I'm curious!!
Ideas for taking more steps.
Park farther away instead of getting the closest parking space.
If you're watching TV, get up during each commercial and do something! Basically just walk around. And don't use the remote! If you have to get up to change the channel that's a few more steps :)
Add your ideas. Let's get healthier together!!
I'm working on being healthier and dropping a few pounds that I gained over the winter.
My starting weight (today's actual weight) HOLY CRAP! 110 lbs! I'd like to get down to 105.

Weekend Happenings
2007-04-22
It's been a busy and fun filled weekend.
Yesterday was a celebration for my Father inlaw's 75th birthday! It was held at a lovely park. We took baby girl with us, she put all the little boys to shame on the monkey bars! She is one strong athletic little girl. It took me half an hour in the tub to get her clean from all the sand and dirt that was smeared on her face, feet and all the folds on her chubby little body. She's like a little boy rolled up in a beautiful little girl :)
After her bath, she sat snuggled up with me on couch with her blankey. I love snuggle time with her.
This morning she and Papaw flew her Dora kite. Then of course we had to have scrambled eggs and toast! "Eggs and toast, eggs and toast" this has become her mantra on the mornings spent with Mimi and Papaw.
After breakfast we danced to Hips don't lie by Shakira. I think I freaked Papaw out with my loose hips! hahaha! Little does he know I've been practicing! ;) At 12:20 PM, my pedometer is already showing 2286 steps. I think some of those are shimmys!
Our little sugar lump is on her way home now to see Mommy and Daddy. I love her to bits but, I'm always ready for some down time when she leaves.

I was born on a Tuesday...
2007-04-21
Last night my husband and I lit a big bonfire and while we were standing around the fire, the neighbor's horse, Jupiter came sauntering up to the fence with a rooster perched on his back. I thought it was a great photo op so, off I ran to get my camera.
After I had run several yards, KERSPLAT! Down I went on my knees first then my face! Right in the mud. Misty our golden retriever thought this was a wonderful opportunity to play with me. The 80 lb. fur ball came pouncing toward me while my husband was yelling for her to stop. I held up my foot to detour her. Luckily she didn't pounce on me. I was fine, no broken bones, just muddy knees and hands.
After I changed clothes, hubby and I went to get something for dinner. I ran into a deli for a salad while he went into the chinese place next door for take-out. I was standing in line to pay for my food when the man behind me gently tapped me on the shoulder. I turned around to find a tall thin man with a bandana on his head and cigarette behind his ear. He said "you have a leaf in your hair" then he very softly plucked the leaf from my hair and handed it to me. (I'm still not sure why he thought I wanted the leaf)
I explained to him that I'd just had a roll in the yard. I fibbed and told him the dog tripped me He went on to tell me how pretty my hair was! That was nice but it felt a bit odd to hear that standing in the check out lane or anywhere really. I'm not sure why? He seemed to take a little too much pleasure in touching my hair. I probably read way too much into it.
I think had it been the other way around, I would have said nothing and probably just wondered in silence why the leaf was there.
After I had paid and was walking away, I thanked him. He yelled very loudly...much louder than necessary, "You have a wonderful evening" Nice guy but, as I said....it all felt odd.
What's that they say about Tuesday child being full of GRACE? I'm sure I was meant to be born on Thursday!

So my dress is down the pooper!
2007-04-18
My beautiful Mother of Bride dress can't be altered enough to fit me :( Well, I guess it could if it were taken completely apart but, I would pay more for the alterations than I did the dress, so...back it goes.
Oh well, the hunt is fun!
Maybe I'll "sex it up" this time around...NOT! ;)

Mother of the Bride
2007-04-14
Hello Everyone :)
It's been a week since I've made an entry. I find it hard to come up with things to write about that anyone would find worthy of reading but, that's never stopped me before.
Recently wedding plans have filled my mind. Even though I'm not completely thrilled that my daughters are getting married, I've tried to just resign myself to the fact that they are and throw myself head on into the planning of the weddings.
I ordered my dress for my oldest daughter's wedding online and received it today. It's too big but, my SIL is a wonderful seamstress so I'm hoping she can help me out. My youngest daughter was able to see it in an email I sent to her and her response to me was, "It's very pretty Mom but I think you could sex it up a bit more" HELLO! I'm the Mother of the Bride, not the girl who jumps out of the cake at the bachelor party! haha, she's a hoot!
As soon as I find the picture of her wedding dress, I'll post a picture of it too. She's beautiful in it. I think I even saw a tear in her Dad's eye when she stepped out of the dressing room. I think he caught a glimpse of the price tag!
Be honest, should I "sex it up it up a bit more"?
Of course I'm kidding...(it's hard to tell from the picture but, the top is beaded)

Feeling weepy
2007-04-09
I rarely watch TV during the day. I actually don't enjoy having the television on at all and really only watch when I'm tired and need something to put me to sleep. That doesn't mean I don't watch it other times, I do but, most of the time it's because someone else is watching and it's either watch it or leave the room.
But, more to the point. I turned the television on today and watched The people's court. Long story short, there was a lady sueing because her scooter seat had been ripped in a wheelchair lift. I knew immediately she had MS. I just knew. I knew before she said she had MS. Other than the scooter she looked "normal" as a matter of fact, she was attractive.
I've had MS long enough to have heard all the worst scenarios and have experienced some of the scarier symptoms myself. I've spent the weekend with folks who use wheelchairs, scooters, canes and forearm crutches, due to disabling MS. The only time I've ever been bothered by it was right after my diagnosis. I was at the mall and saw one my former school mate's Mother in a scooter and I recalled that she had been dx'd with MS several years prior. I teared up but, hid my emotions, as I was with my children. The diagnosis was new to them too and they were scared as well and quite young at the time.
I've grown accustom to seeing people with MS wheelchair bound and it really hasn't been a fear for me for quite sometime. I don't want to become disabled to the point of having to use a wheelchair and I'm sure that goes without saying but, if I ever do, I can live with that. I would be fine and I would make the most of it.
Today for some reason though, seeing this vibrant woman bound to that scooter bothered me! I hated the way the judge and the defendent walked behind her to examine the chair. Naturally in doing so, the lady with MS had her back to them. It was like she was an object, like she had been removed from the situation. She was reduced to being part of the chair she was using as her legs. I hated that she said, and I know it's true, "I have MS and stress exacerbates my illness" Who among us leads a stress free life? I hate it that I have a monster inside me that I have no control over. This monster can turn on me at any given moment. I could wake up tomorrow and not be able to see, pee, walk or numerous other unpleasant things but, none of us have any guarantees, do we?
I've known this all along. I don't dwell on it, although I do thank the Lord that I am as capable and healthy as I am and I do this often. This is really the only time I really speak about my illness and this is between myself and God. I don't feel sorry for myself and I never have...not about the MS, that is. We all have our burdens to bear and this just happens to be one of mine.
But for some reason today, seeing this woman in that scooter has made me feel on the verge of tears.
I want to dance with my grandchildren....all of them! I want to dance at their weddings. I want to visit Bora Bora someday and be able to walk on the beach and feel the sand under my feet. Why today is this bothering me? I don't have the answer to that.
My prognosis is good really. I've had MS for at least 20 years (only dx 8 yrs) and I'm doing well. Your prognosis is based on how well you do for the first 5 years after diagnosis or the onset of the disease, whichever comes first. I'm doing so well infact, that most of the people closest to me, I think sometimes forget I'm even "sick" Which can be good and bad at the same time. The disease never goes away and I have symptoms that never let up but, overall, YES, I'm doing very good.
With that said, nobody can accurately predict the course this disease will take. I've known this for as long as I've had MS and I accept it, I live with it, I believe I deal with it well and yet today, I'm bothered by all of it. I actually felt sorry for the lady in the scooter but, I don't think she felt sorry for herself nor do I believe she wanted pity and I never want pity. Understanding, yes, pity, no.
I think I'll go to the gym and try to forget for a while. Maybe that's why I enjoy the gym so much. Nobody there has a clue that I have MS and I like it that way.

Pet Peeve
2007-04-09
I'm not a particularly picky person. I obviously am not a great writer but, that doesn't mean that the way some people write doesn't just drive me right up the wall.
I think if I see one more person use THEN instead of THAN, I'LL SCREAM!!! I'm blown away by how many people think they can interchange the two words.
Example: I'd rather have ice cream for dessert then cake. Maybe that's a bad example, I'd like to have ice cream then cake too but, what I was trying to convey was that you have a choice, it's either cake or ice cream and this hypothetical person chose ice cream.
I'd rather have ice cream THAN cake!
Then/Than...it's not the same!!
This does not mean you can critique my writing :) I've already admitted that I'm not a writer and I will add, I am also not an English major.
I'm very sensitive though ![]()

The Big Tease
2007-04-04
The past two weeks have been heavenly. It's been hovering in the upper 70's, low 80's, with wall to wall sunshine. To sum it up, the weather has been PERFECT! Yesterday we were under severe thunder storm warnings and tornado watches all day. The sun kept playing hide and seek. One minute it was sunny then the next the sun would duck behind a cloud. I kept thinking it was going to ran any minute but to my surprise it held out most of the day.
When my husband got home we were out in the yard piddling around when the wind picked up. I knew then it was inevitible..it was going to rain and ruin our perfect run of beautiful weather. I walked around to the side door of the garage when I felt a VERY cold burst of air! I mean one second I was actually considering going in to change into shorts because it was so warm and the next, I had goosebumps on my arms. I thought the garage had been blocking the wind until I said to my husband that he should feel how cold it was, he replied with, yeah, it feels like the temp just dropped 20 degrees. That's the kind of weather tornados are made of. I've never in my life seen such a drastic change in the temperature. (I know, I'm easily amused)
The rest of the week calls for rain and the temps dropping to sub freezing! GRRR!
How dare Mother Nature tease me with such beautiful weather, let the little plants poke their heads out of the ground, then BAM! 20 degrees?
I know, patience grasshopper, Summer will be here in due time. At least the kids had a lovely Spring Break. Probably the best I remember since my children have been in school.
If I were a bear, I'd be really pissed right now!

Monday
2007-04-02
Good Monday morning to everyone!I just returned a bit ago from dropping my poor little Honda Accord off at the body shop for repairs. When I arrived there was supposed to be a rental car waiting for me but, it seems someone goofed up the scheduling and they had me down for tomorrow. No biggie, one phone call and twenty minutes later, I had a car to drive.
I really think when your car goes in for repairs, they should give you a corvette convertible to drive. It may be the one and only chance you get to drive such a car. Not that my life will be any less full without it but, what fun that would be for a week! Especially right now! The weather is gorgeous and all the trees are blooming. It would be great to drive around with the top down.
I guess I'll have to settle for my moon roof when I get my car back.
We had an unscheduled visitor this weekend. My husband's daughter called us at about 7 PM on Saturday evening to say that Lexy was crying when they tried to leave her with her "Aunt Tongy" and she wanted her Mimi. So off we go to Kentucky to pick up the tad spoiled toddler. As soon as she saw us, she said, Mimi, will you take me to Chuckie Cheese? UGH! "How about Walmart?" Which is what we did. We've taken Lexy and Kaden to CC twice and although it's fun for them, it's something I have to prepare my mind for in advance. Sort of like going in for a root canal.
Spring break is over and my son is back in school. Finally! Not that I don't enjoy time with my son, I do but, it really messes with my schedule to have him home all day everyday for a week.
So it's back to the regularly scheduled programming. Hopefully I'll make it to the gym today, do a bit of house work and cook a meal. We ate out every meal this weekend with the exception of one lunch. We've got to stop doing that! I wish we had all the money we've spent on eating out.
I hope everyone has a lovely week.
BE SAFE!
OH, I nearly forgot! (which is a good thing) Yesterday was my 8 year anniversary of being diagnosed with MS. Yep, it was on April Fool's Day! I'm still waiting for someone to tell me it was all a big joke. :-)~ NO? Alrighty then!
