Ready, Set...
2007-02-15
Well, I packed a huge suitcase full and I'm not done yet and also wondering where hubby will put his clothes. I went to the library and checked out some books, then off to target for new socks...it's a rule, if you go on a trip, you must have new socks! Don't ask me, I don't write the rules, I just follow them. I bought groceries for the kids while were gone, bought hubby some new boxers, as I'm sure he'll be struttin' his stuff. He thinks if he pays for a hotel room...well, you know. He says that's a rule, I think he's full of it ;)
So yeah, I'm getting ready to go to Florida :)

Holding Pattern
2007-02-15
If one more person asks me "Are you getting ready to go to Florida" I think I'll scream! Besides packing, what else is there to do? Do I need to get in a different frame of mind to go? Actually I hope I do. I'm just not looking forward to it. I hate traveling by car and hubby and I have never, ever, in our 19 years of marriage, taken a car trip this long. Should be interesting, eh?
Once we're there, I'm sure everything will be fine and we'll have a wonderful time. Everytime I think about going though, I get this panicky feeling. Maybe it's because, I haven't even attempted to "Get ready to go to Florida" hahaha! I will though and it will be fine.
I must sound very ungrateful and it goes against my grain to complain...really it does. I hear you laughing...Stop It!
I feel like I should be more excited. *shrug* Well, at least a certain level of good anticipation. It's not like we're traveling to the South Pacific.
Valentine's Day has come and gone. Ours was pretty uneventful. Hubby brought home dinner, roses and balloons for me. Very sweet. ♥ We stayed in and watched TV. I know...wild stuff! As cold and nasty as it's been though, getting out at night is really more of an adventure than I'm willing to tackle sometimes and yesterday was one of those, "sometimes"
I need to get off my duff and get myself motivated somehow.
Have a LOVELY DAY :-)

Florida, here I come!
2007-02-12
Seems we will be going to Florida next week, instead of our planned trip to French Lick!
Boat Dude called today and wants us to deliver the boat to him and he's paying for our little trip! woot woot!
Now I need to cancel the reservations we have at French Lick and make reservations in Destin. I should probably check out the weather forecast too. HOLY COW, I'm white as a sheet! Hmmm, I think a little tanning is in order.
Haha, I thought we were going snow skiing and now I'll be sitting on the beach instead! No complaints, I just wish we'd had a little more notice.
All you Florida peeps, hang on, I'm comin'!
Well Poo, I just checked the weather and it's not all that warm in Destin right now :( Oh well, it's still warmer than it is here :)

Then and Now
2007-02-11
MOM GUIDE
Parenting Tips: Then and Now

Over the past 70 years, Babytalk's advice has ranged from right on the money to downright bizarre! These are all actual quotes from Babytalk Magazine.
Good "wifing"
Then: "Don't keep [your hubby] waiting for his meals -- hunger is the father of anger." (June 1968)
Now: "It's hard to shift gears from making bottles to making out. Give yourself a chance to relax with your partner and you might find that you're actually (gasp!) in the mood." (October 2006)
Breadwinner blues
Then: "Perhaps it should be a requirement that every wife hold at least one position outside the home before marriage. This is probably the only way she can realize the day-in and day-out grind her breadwinner knows." (September 1943)
Now: "Moms should realize that the decision to return to work or stay home is highly personal. Whatever your choice, if you can think through why you're doing it and feel good about your decision, you'll be less anxious if others question you. (November 2004)
The strangest tips ever told
- "Many babies prefer to sleep with their ears folded like pink flower petals against their cheeks.... On a bald-headed baby, narrow bands of adhesive tape will hold the ears securely down." (January 1942)
- "When they form the habit of sitting on their knees... straighten their legs out, again and again, dozens of times a day if necessary. Continued sitting in such a position will deform their knees, flattening them." (January 1942)
- "Bathing the baby is a favorite way to entertain visitors. Unless baby plays too much to the gallery it's fine, but sometimes he does just that." (April 1943)
Scrub, scrub, scrub!
Then: "Use soap or detergent, sponge or cloth, and scrub, scrub, scrub on a daily basis to keep the household squeaky-clean." (April 1960)
Now: "While [super-organized] moms may be able to win a proverbial 'Tidy Bowl,' any illusions about their superiority might go down the drain if we got to really know them... Indeed, the neat mom might be the first to say that envy from other moms is misplaced." (March 2006)
Sun-baked babies
Then: "Prepare baby's skin for first sunbaths with a thin coating of baby oil to promote tanning." (June 1949)
Now: "Avoid strong sunlight since soft baby skin burns easily. Or dress him in a brimmed hat and long cotton sleeves. Dab a bit of infant-safe sunblock on his face and hands." (April 2006)
Watch those pregnancy pounds
Then: "Pregnant, you'll look like a real 5' by 5' unless you keep weight gain under 20 pounds." (March 1953)
Now: "Remember that it took nine months for you to put on the baby weight, and it will likely take at least that long to lose it. You may not be able to drop every last pregnancy pound, but take a peek in the nursery and remind yourself that it happened for a delicious reason." (February 2005)

Zsa Zsa's Husband: I Might Be Baby's Dad
2007-02-10
Zsa Zsa's Husband: I Might Be Baby's Dad
The husband of actress Zsa Zsa Gabor said Friday that he had a decade-long affair with Anna Nicole Smith and may be her infant daughter's father.
The claim by Prince Frederic von Anhalt comes amid a paternity suit over Smith's 5-month-old daughter, Dannielynn. The birth certificate lists Dannielynn's father as attorney Howard K. Stern, but former Smith boyfriend Larry Birkhead is waging a legal challenge, saying he is the father.
"If you go back from September, she wasn't with one of those guys, she was with me," von Anhalt told The Associated Press in an interview Friday.
He said he would file a lawsuit if Dannielynn is turned over to Stern or Birkhead.
A message seeking comment from Smith's attorney, Ron Rale, was not immediately returned Friday.
Von Anhalt, 59, and Gabor, 90, have been married for more than 20 years.
Gabor, a onetime sex symbol and star of such 1950s films as "Moulin Rouge" and "Queen of Outer Space," has been in declining health in recent years and suffered a stroke in 2005. She was partially paralyzed in a car crash in 2002.
"She was a very big fan of Zsa Zsa and wanted to be like Zsa Zsa," he said. "She wanted to be a princess."
He said the two started an affair soon after, meeting over the years in Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York. For much of that time, he said, Smith urged him to make her a princess like his wife.
But short of divorcing the actress, he said the only solution would have been adopting Smith. Von Anhalt said he did consider that and even filled out adoption papers, but Gabor refused to sign them.
He said he never admitted the affair to his wife, but that he's sure she knows. She would sometimes answer the phone when Smith called him, von Anhalt said.
"She was a very sexy woman," von Anhalt said. "To have an affair with her is the top, you know."
Publicist Edward Lozzi, who said he handled publicity for Gabor when she was convicted of slapping a Beverly Hills police officer during a 1989 traffic stop, said he doubted von Anhalt's claim, calling him a "chronic fabricator."
"There are some people who are married to famous people and take advantage of it," said Lozzi, who said he dated Smith three times and spoke with her within the last year.
Both von Anhalt and John Blanchette, Gabor's longtime publicist, said Lozzi was a hanger-on and never the family's official publicist.
"He's the one taking advantage of it," von Anhalt said.
Ronald Jason Palmieri, an attorney who has represented Gabor and von Anhalt for 15 years, was also skeptical about the paternity claim.
"I have to believe my client, but it's still surreal," he told the Los Angeles Times. "I would find it completely implausible that he is the father of that child, to put it lightly."
Von Anhalt's royal credentials have been the cause of speculation over the years. According to stories in the British press, he was born Robert Lichtenberg, the son of a German policeman, and bought his title after being adopted as an adult by a bankrupt daughter-in-law of the last kaiser.

Where to start...
2007-02-09
I haven't posted in quite sometime. Well, for me it's been a while anyway. I've been unusually busy for someone who doesn't work. Let's see what's been going on this week?
For pitty's sake, I can't even remember Monday! Oh well, maybe this will be out of correct chronological order... so what!?!
So, I made the reservations for our anniversary get away at French Lick. BTW, you can view the resort here... www.frenchlick.com It's quite gorgeous there. We're also planning on going to Paoli Peaks while were there. Anyway, so I make the reservations, make plans for while we're there, buy ski clothes, etc.. and hubby then tells me that we might be going to Destin, FL instead. I almost doubt it will happen but, I'd like to know ASAP because, the two couldn't be further apart, in terms of preparations.
You see, we have/had a boat that we sold to a fellow that lives in Destin, FL and everytime he makes plans to come and get it, we get a little snow in the weather forecast. It's nothing that would scare us but, to a true blue Floridian well, I guess it does. So we've made the offer of delivering the boat to him but, at a fee. He's considering it. In the meantime the clock is ticking and the French Lick resort has my CC#! YIKES *wink* tick tock tick tock.
In other news, I made a trip to St. Louis with my best friend Sherri on Wednesday to see her daughter Shay. Shay attends Webster Grove school of the performing arts. It was a lovely day and great to see Shay :) Sherri and I talked and got caught up on years worth of "stuff" We've spent time together in the recent past but, this was a chance to spend hours upon hours together talking. It was a great day!
Oh there's more...things like, my Mother in law threw out her partner of 30 years on his ear this past Sunday. With no warning. We've yet to talk to her. Very Odd.
...
blah blah blah...
Here's some pics from this week :)
Sherri & Shayla

I can't believe I'm posting this picture of myself...It's not a good pic but, what the heck! and if I make it small enough, maybe you won't see me looking so road worn! haha
Sherri and I

And, my little Sugar Lump! Lexy!

I had to snap this one just because her hair is so pretty :)

And that's it from me for now. I hope everyone has a lovely weekend :)

The Story Of Genarlow Wilson
2007-02-03
My friend, Pastor Dave posted this on tblog and I thought it
was so important, that I should post it here as well.
Please feel free to pass it on through email,
word of mouth, a link to my blog, copy and paste it into your blog...whatever!
Just let folks know that this young man needs our help.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Genarlow Wilson is serving a ten year mandatory sentence in a Georgia state prison.
Here are some links to the full and sordid account,
and then I will give you the abbreviated story:
"Outrageous Injustice", ESPNMagazine
"Injustice In Georgia: The Case Of Genarlow Wilson"
At age 17, Genarlow was an Honors Student and Homecoming King at Douglas County High School. He was also an outstanding football player, being recruited by Ivy League schools. He was popular, but admits he was not perfect. He did something stupid, and got caught.
Genarlow and friends rented a room at the local Day's Inn for a New Years Eve bash. They drank, smoked pot, and had sex with some girls. The escapades were videotaped. Caught on tape was the act of oral sex between Genarlow and a 15-year-old. She and her mother both admit it was consensual. A stupid thing done by kids who are sometimes stupid when they are teenagers.
Local prosecutors called it rape and aggravated child molestation. Four teenage boys were arrested. Three plead guilty and placed themselves at the mercy of the prosecutors, who were quite lenient in return. However, Genarlow did not want to be branded a child molester for the rest of life, to be placed on a sex offender registry and be forced to move from home. He opted for a jury trial, expecting some degree of sensibility. The jury found him not guilty of the rape charge, but guilty of aggravated child molestation. They were under the impression such would bring a more lenient sentence. Several members of the jury were shocked, even enraged, to discover it carried a ten year mandatory sentence.
He has served almost three years of the sentence. State legislators have revised the law so this misapplication of justice does not happen again, but they did not make it retroactive. Three times the Georgia Supreme Court has denied the petition of his attorney. And, the governor does not have the power of pardon. So, Genarlow finds himself doing hard time with murderers, thieves, and rapists. He admits he was a cocky and selfish young man, and shakes his head in disbelief when he considers the infamous video.
The Prosecutor's Office of Douglas County has the ability to set aside the sentence, to issue a new sentence of a lesser charge. The prosecuting attorney says that Genarlow was highly unwise to insist upon his innocence in the face of the steamroller of justice. He "rolled the dice and lost". Now, he says, Genarlow needs to swallow his pride and admit to being a child molester.
And the wheels of justice continue crush out the life of a promising young man...
February!
2007-02-01
Wasn't it just Christmas yesterday?
As much as I miss barefoot Summer days by this time of the year, I do enjoy February. Probably because my wedding anniversary is in Feb. and Hubby and I always go somewhere for a few days. It's something to look forward to and it really does help us to reconnect with each other. No distractions, no problems, no computer, no dirty dishes (except those that other folks have to wash:) and if we want..no phone but, that's next to impossible to get away from. Erica (our daughter) will be home while we're away, so I won't worry as much about our son. I shouldn't worry I know, he's 18 but, really that's all the more reason to worry. know what I mean?
We saw *Stranger than Fiction* last night. I thought it was excellent! Will Ferrell was great as usual, even though he wasn't playing a comedy role. And CUTE! Boy, howdy, was he ever attractive! Dustin Hoffman's character was endearing, as was the young woman who played Ferrell's love interest. Her name is Maggie Gyllenhaal. I'd never heard of her but, I loved her character. Very earthy, witty & full of spunk!
We finally got a smidge of snow♥ Not nearly enough for my taste but, it will have to do. At least the holly and pine trees look pretty. I say if it's going to be cold, we might as well have snow!
I hope February is good to everyone!
